Default Which Bilsteins

I'm gong to replace the shocks on my '96. It has the FE1 suspension. I wand a firmer ride, so I'm thinking of getting the Z51 Bilsteins. There is a listing for the Z51 shocks that goes thru '94, then one for '95-'96. What's the difference in these shocks? Are the later ones just softer? will the others fit?

The Z51 shocks are slightly stiffer than the base shocks but the ride is fine.

I just pulled a set off my '96 (replaced with Koni adjustables). They have ~20k miles on them, but they're in great shape and should easily last another 15k miles or so on the street. I'll sell the set (2 fronts, 2 rears) for $125 shipped in the lower 48.

I'm not to sure about the accuracy of your source.

`84-`90 Z-51s have the "heavy duty" suspension, thus the shocks are stronger.
`96 Z-51 uses a "sport" suspension, although not as harsh as the earlier version, it is a little firmer than the base suspension.

The heavy duty suspension from `91-`95 used the FX-3 adjustible shocks.

I am new here, and I have a question. My 96 has the adjustable dampners (FX3) and I want to replace them with Koni adjustables. How hard is it to replace?

Is there anything specific that has to be done to turn off the electronic dampners?

Kenny

I just read a post the other day where somebody with a Gs went that way. try a search. Also, In '96 the adjustable option was F45, I believe.

From what i remember, it was Very easy.

Just for clarification, '96s have F45 while the earlier cars had FX3. Although similar on the surface, they are completely different systems.

Anyway...Mine had F45 before I switched to Bilsteins and now Koni's. Simply remove the shocks and install a resistor in the female plug that was connected to each shock.
