I have a 1996 LT- 1 with Corsa exhaust and cut air box/K&N. What's the straight poop on long tube headers - will they make a noticeable difference ? If yes, who makes the best version (stainless steel available ?). Thanks to all.
Most claim around 25-30 hp increase. Check out Exoticmuscle.com (stainless+coated) I think they have a group purchase goin' on for forum menbers should save ya a few bucks.

Although Exotic Muscle does offer a stainless header, the ones in the GP are coated mild steel. Stainless Works also makes SS headers and I think TPIS may offer one but I can't remember for sure. These are are all top notch products. The headers I have were manufactured by Watson Engineering and sold through Doug Rippie Motorsports. They are stainless and of extreme high quality but sadly are no longer available new.

First off... welcome. I'm surprised that you've been a member since January but took this long to intro. so... we want pics!!!
There are several companies that make headers for our cars. Exotic Muscle has a GP going right now and someone else is trying to get a 1 5\8 GP going too.
TPIS makes good products too. There are also Hookers, Hedman, and many others... it's all a matter of taste preference. Personally I don't think that either makes a substantial amount of power over the other, but I also don't have proof of that statement so don't take it as fact.

Steve, welcome to the forum. The stock 96 LT1 exhaust is very, very good and I doubt on a stock engine you will see much, if any HP gain with long tubes alone. If your planing on a big cam and proted heads well thats another story.
Now you failed to tell us if your car is a 6M or A4, If it's a 6M long tubes and Bullet cat will fit but on an auto car there is no room to fit cats, trust me I tried and it can't be done without toasting the trans fluid or placing the cats so far rearward that they won't do there intended job.
Good luck.
thanks for the info. It's an A4 and a shop here in Denver tells me he's done it and it works like crazy. Is he full of it, trying to sell the job or ??
I'll be loading pics soon.
thanks. mackeyred96 also offered sage advice, warning about problems in auto cars like mine. The job costs enough moola that I really need help deciding from guys that have done it.

There are several members up your direction that have done these mods. You might also want to check with Boulder LT4 to see what he recommends. He has gone a little ape **** on mods. He's going to have one fast ride when it's done. I'm sure he can also recommend a places to hook you up too.

I agree if your car is basically stock there isn't a lot of gains to be had. Just because in a stock condition the engine doesn't require that much breathing capacity. In your car the main restriction is in the rear mufflers. Even the resonator is not much of a restriction. Seeing how you already have a Corsa system I doubt that you would get much benefit from the cost. However once you install a cam and a set of CNC ported heads, add a 52mm TB and some decent tuning. Then thats a new ball game, now your engine will require the additional capacity and you will see a considerable gain.
Welcome to the forum, you will find a lot of knowledge and good people here. I have personally met many of them in person. A great bunch of enthusistst here.
