Try to start my 92 auto today. Turn key and nothing. Did not even turn over. Battery seemed OK Lights, radio, etc were strong. Also it is new installed three weeks ago. I sit there trying key with nothing for about 5 minutes then it roars on. Drove it about twenty minutes and it drove fine. While driving security light flashes on and service ASR lightes up.
If the lights did not dim when you hit the start key position the problem is either the VATS system or the neutral/park safety switch; my bet is on the VATS unless you wiggled the shifter between start up attempts.

I have no clue on the ASR issue.
Lights didn't dim.
On the VATS issue, can that be disabled? Or what is the fix?

I decided to wiggle the shifter a bit and it starts right up.
Sounds like the shifter cable is out of adjustment. Does the steering wheel lock and can you remove the key when you put the shifter into Park?? There is also a switch that allows starting in the Neutral position. Does that work??

Have no problems with steering wheel lock or removing the key.
