Default Turbocharging ?'s

Has anyone ever turbocharged a 1985 corvette? I have recently got a new job ans some money to fund such a project. I was wondering if anyone had any feed back on wether or not to go with a possible twin or single set up. Either way which size turbo would be good for 355cui motor. Im planning on deleting the AC going with an electric water pump and rerouting the pullies to have a liitle more room at the top of the engine bay. I saw a T70 and a GT42 on ebay the other day that seemed like a good size turbo for a single set up. I follow this forum very closly and with more and more turbo set ups popping up i think the time has come to follow along. If anyone has attempted to put a turbo on an older L98 can you please chime in and tell me what you did with the headers and crossover pipes on the system and where to maybe find them.

I am in the same boat you are. I have a 1988. It looks to me like no one make a turbo kit for the L-98. I don't know why. It seems like a natural mod.

I have a 1985. HP Performance is installing a single turbo system on the car. It is custom made but they will be marketing kits. My car will be done in a couple of weeks. They are in the final stages of re-programing, tuning and dynoing the vehicle.

do you have any engine mods? I'm curious to see what they put out for numbers, and what size turbo they used.

Thats awesome if they market a kit. I just started tearing apart my engine compartment so i can get new pulley brakets on and figure a way to make the exhaust work. If they market a kit that might save me some trouble. What size turbo did they put on your car and is it going to be intercooled?

What exactly did they do to the ecu for programming, I was looking into buying a big stuff 3 and having it piggy backed to the stock ecu.

The one thing you need to look out for is in order to keep the stock ECU awake you will need to keep an HEI ignition setup. Don't ask me how I know this....

I've got a piggy back harness from FastTrack for a FAST install into a '90 using an IPU ignition that's "supposed" to keep the stock ECM and CCM working. I still haven't gotten to installing it yet. They've got instructions for adding an external GM ignition module and coil to feed neede information back to the stock ecm.

One of these days I might get time to see if it works.

I don't know the size of the turbo, only because I have not asked. I am not very knowledgable about those details. It will be intercooled, jet-hot coated pipes, carbon fiber intake and upgraded fuel injectors. The computer program is being redone and a new chip or chips burned. It will be dynoed before its return to me. I will call and find out the size of the turbos.

That's why chevy made an arrangement with callaway, I guess.

I've seen a handfull of turbo C4's. most of them have been B2K's, the rest have been totally custom fabrications. I'd love to find a pre-engineered turbo kit for a L98, but after this long, I'm not holding my breath.

I did some looking and you may (or may not) be supprised to hear what I discovered: It is cheaper to sell my C4 and buy a TT C5, than it would be to intall a turbo in my C4. Since I don't have fabrication experience, tools (or even a garage), I 'd have to pay somebody else for everything.

Evltwin, Please let us know if somebody makes a kit available.

I talked to the guys at HP on Thursday and Friday. They are supposed to have my car on the dyno for tuning this weekend (April 16th and 17th). When my car is complete they will use it to fabricate a kit. Anyone with interest can call them. They are in Roswell New Mexico. No, I don't have an interest in the business. Like the rest of you, I just wanted to find someone to make an affordable kit.

STS... the rear mount turbo guys make a universal kit... I chatted a little with them about... it would take a bit to put it together compared to specific designed kit... but do able for sure..

Your C4 must be worth a mint...

Sorry to hear your without a garage... It is the only place I like to park my vette... Working on them is enjoyable

Evltwin, Please let us know if somebody makes a kit available.
Check out STS turbos...
Good Luck !

Or, after the C6 was released, modded C5's have tanked..... But let's not drag this thread that far off topic by arguing about that.
Either way, the STS solution does look promising. Who were you talking to there about a C4 project?
