Default Here comes #4 Slave

Last year I had 3 slaves fail and installed 3 new GM slaves. The last one installed about 3 - 4 months ago is failing. Had my connection order me a new NON GM one. Should go on this or next weekend.
If there is a good part to this story is I can do the swap in my sleep

Yikes, any idea why they keep failing? Is there a heat source really close?

Not any unusual heat. Rumours and mine and others recent experiences indicates poor QC from whoever is manufacturing these for GM

Damn, brother. Please PM me or post the Wagner part # when you get it. I will be installing # 3 very shortly.

As far as heat source scorp, the slave sits about 4 inches or so, if memory serves me, from the exhaust pipe.

Anyone get a price on a McLeod billet slave yet?

I looked at my 1985 slave and I know now that I can make a bracket to hold that 85 slave in place where the ZF slave bolts up.

If my ZF slave craps out again, this will be my next option, rebuild the 85 slave and fab a bracket to hold the 85 slave in the correct postion like the ZF POS.

My parts source says Wayner, Raybestos, etc, no one makes a replacement.

I checked on DRM's site and they have a performance slave for $155.

Anyone know of any other alternatives?

Raybestos shows they carry a slave cylinder for the Vette.
Click on online catalog and put your year and model in.

I bought my slave from autozone, so far so good, no problem what so ever. I originally want to buy the OEM but dealer say they have to order them. So, I went to autozone and got aim.

That part number shows as a master not a slave?

I replaced both at the same master and clutch slave. So I guess you need the master slave. Autozone has them.

This may sound funny...buy someone told me that if you dodn't have a good ground at the Transmission electrolisis will eat up the Alum. slave Cylinders.I've changed 3 in 10 years come to think of it.Put an ohm meter on the trans to your battery and make sure you have good continuity.

We are all up the creek w/o a paddle thanks to GM. I spoke with Doug Rippie MS about purchasing one of their slaves. They don't want to sell them until GM gets this situation solved. The only thing they do to modify the slave is to open up the input, they don't touch the bore, piston or seal. They have had the ones they sell go bad too and GM won't warrant them to DRM. He told me these replacement slaves have sat around long enough that the bores have rusted. That would explain why they fail after a short period of time.

I'm going to do a major search tonight.

Another idea I had was at the Kerbeck toys for tots run I met a GM zone manager (I think that's what he was) and of course I can't find his card. I have a message into Dave Salvatore at Kerbeck to get this GM guy's contact info. Dave is off today, if anyone has that contact info please contact me.

Certainly something to check but I think the culprit here is the amount of time these slaves have sat on a shelf
