Default "Service LTPWS"

Has anyone had experience with what causes this light? I performed a search under this subject and everyone was talking about just pulling the bulb. I don't want to pull the bulb, I want to know what is wrong.
Yesterday we took the car out for the second time this Spring. It sat almost all winter in the garage. The first time out this light came on after driving for over 100 miles, and stayed on for just a short time. Yesterday it came on almost immediately after leaving the garage, but went out after 5 miles. After a short stop to gather the rest of our group, we hit the freeway and the light came on again, this time lasting over 50 miles. After it went out, it did not come back on all the rest of the day. I am speculating that since the sensors need centifugal force to build up power to send their signal, they are weak after setting all winter? The "Service LTPWS" light comes on when it does not receive a signal from all four sensors and goes out after all four build up enough power to send a signal?

I experience the same thing once in a while and have not figured out what the cause is. It only seems to happen to me when its cold outside, then once I am down the road a bit and maybe the tires are warmed up the light goes out. Just once in a blue moon does it happen.

I don't think it has anything to do with a signal since when I take my stock wheel off and put my race wheels on the light never comes on and they don't have the LTPWS sensor in them.

similar situation here a well. my ltpws sensors all check out. the light in the DIC is a bit more persistent though, its on most of the time once i reach about 2. mi. distance. this occurs about 75% of the time when i drove it. and it occurs whether it hot or cold outside.

interesting also is that this phenomenon began after my vette was sitting for about 3 months.

My '96 does much the same thing. It often sits for many days without being driven. The problem seems to occur more in cold weather. When the light is on and the car has been driven a few miles, if I turn the ignition off, then on again, the light goes out and does not come on again. Not sure what it all means.

I could drive mine for weeks without any light and then it would come on for a while .
When i fitted the chrome Z06 wheels I didnt bother with sensors , no sensors , no light , no problem .

I just check tire presures every so often

Seems strange that changing wheels w/ no sensor does nothing, very weird, to answer the question of leaving it sit and then lights come on could that be a cycling process (module trying to find respone)? I think that cold can have an effect, and when tires rotating under normal driving is when the system is probably the most effective. And for you guys w/ no sensors I guess this does not apply. Mine does this intermintantly, and I have not put on my new tires and rims yet, I also elected to not use the sensors we will see what happens.

Here is what I know about this system is that when service LTPWS light is on
1ST start car do both bulbs come on? do it a couple of times for consistant result
2nd if both come on reciever is ok
3RD if no check module , bulbs, check harness instr. panel harness needs 12 volts at pin a and check ground pin b if no it will be harness if yes it is LTPWS reciever/mod.
Now this is one area of the system if the Service L lamp comes on after a few minutes but shuts off, all information I know is then related to to wheel sensors, many possibles here including: 2 of the same color wheel sensors, a tire being rotated (diff. sensor to wheel as the sys. sees it), a sensor aside from being bad, could very well be just be flopping around in there (many forum members have said when they did their tire swaps, the tire store found a strap broken two of the same sensor, wrong sensor to wheel location). The antenna to the module is the valve stem. While the receiver unit is constinatly "listening" for signals from the sensors if they all "report" as vehicle is moving then no action ( service L light not on) BUT IF ONE or more sensors dnt signal back SERVICE LTPWS comes on. And yes the lamp goes off if the ign. is turned off or, if all sensors signal again. This is covered in a GM service manual in pretty good detail. ADDITIONALLY, try an advanced search you will find some very good threads (and a site or 2 if I remember correctly) that covers this much better than I could, and this is certainly a good place to begin if this concerns you. Personally I think this is a gadget, while cool is not neccesary m7

Good information, thanks.
First, all lights in the DIC light when car is started, so I'm sure it is not a bulb problem. I know all four sensors are correct and on the correct wheel. And I am 99% sure I don't have a broken band (we had the right front band break at high speed and it throws the balance off so much that 30 mph was the best we could do without the front end bouncing off the ground). I lean more toward one sensor is going out and may not be sending a strong enough signal. We'll keep watching and testing.

I will do an advanced search and keep researching.
