C4 Tech/Performance L98 Corvette and LT1 Corvette Technical Info, Internal Engine, External Engine

Really easy dumb question...

Default Really easy dumb question...

When you bench bleed a master cylinder, do you want to depress the piston all the way so it bottoms out, or will that ruin the seals? I have heard that when you bleed the brakes you should not depress the brake pedal all the way (don't know if this is related or not). I'm going to attempt this next week... just wanna make sure I've got my facts straight...

When I did this operation last fall the instructions said to use a few quick short strokes (please...) and then wait for air bubbles to stop.

I found it took a combination of short & long strokes (please...) with some tilting to get the job done.

Don't bottom out the plunger as this is how I got mine stuck and had to replace the MC.

BTW, it took quite a while to bleed the rear of the MC as this portion moves less volume as the front due to the front/back bias.

I have an LT1 car and the MC is a *little* different. Is there any difference in the bleedinmg technique? Can't really imagine that there would be...
