Well yesterdaymy car started idling really rough and the exhaust smelled really rich. A few minutes later, the service soon light came on. Went to get the codes read and it said oxygen sensors. I just put new bosch sensors in like 5 days ago. Another code came up that said the car needed a tune up. But i dont know what to do about the o2 sensors, i know there's something wrong because i know my car, but the Autozone guys are gonna try and screw me by clearing the code then saying nothing's wrong and not giving me new sensors. What should I do?!!
I have never heard of a code that specified, "tune up". You don't mention the year, but if it is an LT4, as your name suggests, then there is a LOT I don't know about your ECM, OBDII, or engine. Even so, codes generally indicate where the anomaly was detected, in this case the O2. That doesn't necessarily mean the O2 is bad, but that the ECM got a bad reading from the O2. The O2 may have sent info that caused a code to be set, due to problems other than a bad sensor. After all, it IS a sensor. In short, don't shoot the messenger. Follow the trouble shooting charts in your HELMS to track down the problem.
For my 94 there are 22 different oxygen sensor DTCs. A 96 should have more than that. None of them indicates "bad O2 sensor" in and of itself. Further diagnosis is required to determine where the fault lies.
What caused you to replace the O2 sensors in the first place?
The same code?
Which code is it?
What work was done to the car preceding the original code?
Also why do you assume "Autozone guys" want to screw you?

I can testify that Bosch sensors are crappy I put 2 in mine one worked the other didn't. To make it worse the one that wouldn't was on the left side a real PITA to get to.My plan from here on out is to use GM parts especially where they are hard to get to. A relay mabey not.

Yep, not too long ago, I had to replace a Bosch O2 sensor on driver side. POS Bosch sensors if you ask me....I went with GM sensors...
I thought Bosch was a supplier to GM for sensors? If I remember research years ago.. Bosch came out with the sensor first and this allowed the FI systems to go to closed loop. My 79 Caddy FI was open loop no O2 sensor. But even my factory replacement sensors had Bosch stamped on the base. So what's. up?
It is possible that Bosch as any co. might have a few bad ones on the market.
Yes GM o2 sensors are bosch.....

You might want to look into denso o2 sensors They are alot more reliable than the bosch o2 sensors and cost about the same. Alot of grand nation guys use them when they run leaded fuel and they hold up alot better than the bosch o2 sensors.
