Over Drive
got an 86. just brought it and the OD doesnt work on the 4+3. I know this is a common problem, is there a common fix?

Yes, just beware of equating 'common' with 'cheap'.

Check the relay on the firewall by the brake booster (possible short due to shrinking of the wire insulation). Also check the "T" bolt under the OD switch. It could be out of adjustment or even missing.
Just a couple of thoughts

Also, check and make sure the wire hasn't fallen off the od unit. It plugs in on the drivers side just above the pan rail.

change all the relays you see on fender well and by battery. I think there are three. 12.00 each. maf and o/d.

There are lots of possibilities for this happening. Is the little [D] light coming on in the dashboard at all?

I had the same problem with my 87. I just cleaned all the electrical contacts and it worked perfect.

Yea the over drive light comes on when you press the button, an goes off at different times.

hey, ive got an 86 with a similer problem,the light comes on once in awhile,never when i presss the button,i read the 101 projects book and climbed under to find i dont have all those wires on my tranny,only backup light wires to tranny,no second gear switch.is there another way to hard wire the button to work when activated,please help
