Default 94 temp control for htr & a/c

My 94 has auto temp control that works sometimes and then for some reason it will not let you change temp or even the mode that it's in. I think it is a bad htr a/c controler acdelco#16192608 but I hate spending the money if thats not the problem. HELP

This seems to be a common problem with these. I took mine apart, cleaned everything, connections, contact points, etc. and it's been perfect ever since. Use a good electronics contact cleaner.

A number of people have reported that cleaning the contacts helps.

yes, yes, yes.

Don't spend any money until after you've dissassembled and cleaned the contacts in the controller

Make sure you have vacuum to the unit. There is a small one way valve that goes bad under the fuel rail cover that sends vacuum to the unit.

I cleaned mine over a year ago thanks to the How-To on this board, and some suggestions from a few helpful members. It's worked flawlessly ever since. And to think...the dealer wanted $300+!

If you've never disassembled the dash, it's NOT difficult. Just take your time in finding the bolts that need to come out. Start with the center console - I usually remove the lid for ease of access to other bolts. Pull up the carpet - they'll be a couple under there that need to come out to release the trim plate around the shifter. There's another under the lining of the one of the cupholders. Just slowly make your way forward and up the dash.

When you finally have the unit out of the car, bring it inside and give it a good cleaning. All I used was rubbing alcohol and a pencil eraser (very gentle). When all's said and done, you'll feel better knowing that you've accomplished something, and that your bank account still has the same amount of cash in it.

Best of luck!
