Default Power steering Question

I have a leak on my 94 Vette and I am almost positve that it is the power steering. My question is How hard is it to replace or fix? How much will it be for labor to get it fixed (in case it is too difficult for me)? And last whats the worst that can happen? No Power steering (meaning will it screw anything else up)? I tried a search and could not find anything. Sorry. Thanks for the help

Have you monitored your reservoir to make sure it's leaking? Do you have a moan at 1500-2500 rpm?

I don't think it does the pump any good to run dry. If it does you'll suddenly have VERY hard steering, so much so it could be dangerous.

All I know is that on a 90 if it's the pump you have to get a special tool to pull the pully to get at it, after you've removed the serpentine belt; Ugh. Hope it's on the cooler or reservoir.

In any case there's bleeding it after you're done. For that I disconnected the return hose at the reservoir and ran an extension down to a container of new fluid and moved the wheel back and forward. The procedure is in the manual.

I replaced my rack with a rebuilt for $165 CAD. It took less than 2 hours to re and re.
The power steering pump shaft seal was the next thing to leak. The pump was $95 CAD and took less than an hour to re and re (no air pump in the way)
Both doable by the back yard mechanic
