Default tire or wheel

i have a really good shake between 55 and 65 mph. it is coming from the back of the car. i have had the tires balanced many times and when they were doing this i noticed a flat spot in the rotations. now i have never had luck with goodyears and the rim i recently bought . when balanced there is 1.50 grams? of weights on the rear outside rim.
is it the tire or rim. ? also i notice i keep putting about 5lbs of air per week to the right rear tire.

thanks for suggestions

A good tire shop will be able to answer your question.
We on the forum have no way of knowing.

They can also fix your slow leak.

find a shop with a Hunter Road Force balancer.
If that does not fix it... i would next consider the rear shocks.

I have had a light high speed shaking that I could not find. I bought new rims and Goodyears ( not because of the shake, because I wanted them)! I have replaced u-joints in the half shafts and had them balanced, and recently took my drive shaft in to have u-joints put in and the shaft balanced. The shop put my driveshaft on the lathe and spun it. The guy then put a guage in the middle of the shaft and found it to be bent. I was standing there from the time the shaft went in the back and saw it for myself. The drive shaft is well protected in the vette and he can not explain why they get bent. He said that he finds several aluminum shafts that are not straight. The only way to detect some of the bent ones are on the lathe.
He built me a new aluminum shaft and the shaking is gone.
The slip joint that goes into the tail of the trans was also worn from the off balance of the shaft.

Default Could be something else.....

Its a longshot but it could be an unbalanced brake rotor and not the tire or the wheel. Go to a good tire store and get a high speed balance with the wheels on. That the best way to get at the problem, or at least a good start.

Put cheap tires on the front of a vette one time in college due to money issues. Had a bad shake in the front end. Alignment was good, tires ballanced, rotors were fairly new, bearings seemed ok, couldn't figure it out. Lived with it for about a year and bought some good tires. Problem solved. Just because they balance doesn't mean they will ride well is what I'm saying.
