Default Help dead battery and a small leak. HELP

1996 LT-4
25000 miles

I put the the car away in Late October, in a semi heated garage.

Battery is dead- Should I Charge it, Jump it, or replace it?

Small leak of what look like collant. GM put in red collant last may.
I wonder if it was the right collant and did it do any harm?

Thanks

Garry

I'd charge the battery and see if it will hold the charge. Five months is kind of lengthy to allow a battery to sit without any kind of induced charge. If you intend to continuously have your car sit for months at a time, put on a battery floater. It won't do any harm to your battery and your car will start right up when you try.

If you had green coolant in your system when it was replaced with the red, if the proper coolant wasn't used when it was changed (they now make antifreeze compatible with all kinds (green and red)), the only "bad" things that might occur are your gaskets and seals may wear.

Bateries lose /12 of 1% of their charge per day in normal cars. With alarms, radio presets that jumps to1%. In addition as they discharge they build up sulphate deposits on the plates which reduces their ability to hold a charge and shortens their life.
Get it charged and load tested. Next year put it on a float charger.
their are various brands.... Battery Butler, Battery Tender... All battery shops carry them, most autoparts stores carry them.
I picked my first one up at Harbor freight for $7. I bought my second one there on sale for $5... the price is so low no one should be without one. they work!. After 5 months in storage, I fired my '88 up today for the first time.It caught and fired on the first attempt ... less than 1/4 of a second. obviously the battery had wintered well with peak performance

I'd recommend removing both battery cables (+ and -) from the battery and screwing in two 3/8" coarse bolts into the battery, then connecting the charger to those.

Voltage and amp surges can do strange things to the car's electronics.
