Default Vortech power steering question

I have been playing with the 5/8" hose that connects to the stock metal power steering tube. I replaced the hose and reinstalled. Still no change.

I was wondering where the metal tube goes to? It's difficult to see with everything in there. It is the output from the rack and pinion unit or the discharge from the cooler?

The reason I ask is because I was wondering if it is metal tube all the way to the rack and pinion unit or the cooler. If it does, then then I don't have to worry about that being the source of my leak.

Tonight I'm going to jack the car up and take another look at the clamps on the 1/2" lines to make sure that they are on there tight and that the fitting that connects them is equally in the tubes.

The ps fluid is dripping onto the k member and then onto the ground off the rear of the k member. It's going through a quart every 50 or 75 miles, and is a nuisance!!

Anyone run into any problems with this stuff before?

no go.... I wasn't able to even see the 1/2" line where it mates up with the stock 1/2" line.

Looks like I'm going to have to remove the resevoir to free up the 1/2" line and pull it toward the front of the engine bay to inspect.

The hard metal line from the resevoir goes directly into the PS pump. There's a small rubber connector just before it goes into the pump. The soft side goes into the rack somewhere, I haven't followed it back, if you've got anymore question that I can help with let me know. I've got my engine pulled right now so I can see everything from any angle. send me a PM.

thanks for the help. It looks like on my setup the 5/8" line from the pump to the resevior is good. It didn't appear that there's any leaks on that one.

It's time to track down where the vortech extension mates up with the stock 1/2" line.

I agree with MN_vette it runs around the balancer over to the PS pump on the drivers side, one thing that I noticed is that since it is just a straight tube the rubber hoses can move around, my gues might be that the hose may be a little too long and your blower belt may have cut into it...

Just a thought

wow, this one is driving me crazy.

I pulled the resevior and traced the 3/8" line to where it mates up about 8" down from the resevoir. The connection looked good and it had clamps on it. The hose looked to be in good condition. There was no sign of fluid leak there. From there it goes along the passenger side to the cooler. It didn't look like the pulley was hitting it. It looked okay.

I retightened the 5/8" line to the metal tube. I checked the fitiment. It looked okay and the clamp was tightened on there very good and was seated good.

The 5/8" line crosses the k member, so I paid special attention to it. It looked allright however.

All the fittings off the power steering pump looked okay. Am I missing anything?

I drove the car today and it's still leaking....

Well guys, I finally found it!!!!

This was driving me nuts for about 2 months now. I got the car up on the rack and it appeared that the metal tube was leaking. I'm speaking of the metal tube that goes under the motor. I remember hitting a speed bump hard that first time that I came over to work on the struts in your neighborhood mo'. I think that's what cracked it. It was about a 1/4" hairline crack. Anyhow, now that it's fixed, I can focus on the tune of the car and getting it to run like an absolute beast.

Oh Good!

Sorry bout the speed bumps.... but at least you have decent coilovers under it now

I was close... I thought it was the rubber hose connected to it... That would be tough to track down!

the only reason it was rough on the car was because both my struts were blown out.

I never would have suspected that the metal tube was broken.

BTW, I still have your pulley puller. I'll drop by sometime to drop it off.
