Default Start-up problem...

Taking the "Time Machine" out of hibernation today. Turned the key and nothing but a single click. Tried it again and it started right up. Turned the engine off and tried it again. Three times, nothing but a single click. Next try, it started right up. Took it out for a warm-up drive around the subdivision (maybe 2 miles) and put it back in the garage. Turned the engine off and it started right up when I tried it a few more times. So any ideas of what should I be looking at? Any suggestions/help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A few possibliites come to mind...Loose cables at the battery, loose wires and/or cable at the starter, failing starter, weak battery.

If checking all connections doesn't turn up a gremlin, think about getting a new ignition key made.

Also, when you get the "no click" scenario try wiggling the shifter.

You have classic symptoms of a poor battery cable connection. Remove the battery cables (neg first) and clean the cable lugs and the battery terminals and replace the cables (neg last). You want your battery connections to be like your lover, bright and tight.

After I remove the cables, clean everything up and replace the cables on the battery, is there anything that will need reprogramming (other than the clock and radio presets)?

No. And if those steps don't solve the problem, it sounds like the starter solenoid needs to be rebuilt.

RACE ON!!!
