Default Power window problem

Hi everyone. I'm seem to be having a problem with both sides passenger and drivers on my 1984 corvette's power windows. They are very slow especially when rolling down. There is no grinding or anything that sounds mechanically unsound. Simply the windows are very slow. Please let me know what the causes may be and if there is a repair kit. Thank you

The seals aren't new. I got the car in 1997 and it's been slow since bought but it's been getting progressively slower over the years. They are slow whether engine runs or whether key is turned to supply battery power. The thing is I'm getting a very expensive paint job in May and want to have this done before it goes for paint.

I believe the plastic ribbon gear may be caked with old grease, it was in my case. I cleaned up the ribbon gear, applied fresh grease and the windows did move quicker, but not much.

I believe there are replacement assemblies you can install that will correct the problem. If your going to spent a ton of cash on a paint job, you may want to consider the replacement assemblies.

Thanks for the help. I have read in the past that the ribbons can actually be worn could that be a possibility?

I think if they were worn the window would skip and you would see/here it.

Default The problem is the ribbon

The problem is the ribbon setup just isn't that good. I have it in my 86 and I went in there with a little tooth brush and cleaned the ribbon off, put fresh grease on there, cleaned and lubed everything and it got much better, but it is still slower than it should be. I have been told that the grease on the ribbon picks up dirt and packs it into the motor.

I think the real solution is the switch over to the scissor type mechanism from the later years and be done with the ribbon for good. Not the cheapest way out, but everyone that has done it seems to think it is worth it.
