I have a 92 that is starting to give me some trouble. When I first got the car 4 years ago it ran about 180 degrees, now it gets as high as 210 if I'm idling in traffic on a hot day. I know the C4's are famous for getting clogged radiators and I think this might be my issue.
Also, after I drive it I'm noticing some leaking coolant coming from the front. After the engine has cooled, the leaking stops. I've checked all hoses and everything looks good, so I'm thinking the radiator has a hole in it.
Does it sound like my theories on the causes of these problems are accurate? If so, what is a rough $$ estimate if I were to take it to a local radiator shop?
Could be radiator, water pump or hose. You really need to get it in the air while running and see where it's coming from. Radiator repair is around $100 for both tanks replaced (usual cause of leak). That's if you take it in. Figure another hundred for labor if they do it. Hoses are around $20 each. Water pump is several hundred and major PITA. Locate the leak, then go from there.
