Ok you diagnostic experts out there.
My 85 L98 starts on the first crank if it sits for a few days. On days when the car is used in the morning and then started in the afternoon after cooling, starting it is so bad you have to press on the gas.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

That's what is sounds like to me. The injectors leak and you have a flooded engine. If it sits for a day or two the excess gasoline evaporates and you get a fresh start. Next time it hasn't sit too long, floor the throttle before you start cranking. That puts the ECM into the "clear flood" mode. I'll bet it starts quicker that way.

My bet is your fuel pressure regulator. My 93 did the same thing. Turn your key on and remove the vacuum line I bet you will have fuel coming out. When it does this it floods the intake and will evaporate over night.

I had the same problem. Replaced the injectors with no luck. Then replaced the fuel pump and it ended up being the pump that was bad. The pump has a valve in it that is supposed to maintain pressure when the car is off but mine wasn't holding pressure. The best way to check these to figure out which one it is is to pinch off the rubber hoses on top of the gas tank. First, have someone turn the key on until you hear the pump start. Figure out which hose leaves the tank feeding the engine. Immediately pinch off the hose and see if the pressure drops over the period of a couple of minutes(you have to have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel rail). If the pressure holds until you unpinch it then it is your fuel pump. If the pressure drops then it is probably a leaking injector. This of course assumes that you have verified that the pressure dropped when the car was shut off to start with. I pinched off the rubber hoses lightly but enough to cut off the fuel with a pair of vice grips. This method would have saved me spending $300 on new injectors. I always figure things out too late
