Default Porting/ polishing question

(90 L98)

What generally gets done on heads? Mainly smoothing the casting or actually changing the shape of the combustion chamber/ ports or all of that?

What about the plenum and intake manifold?

Thanks.

A good porter will maximize the shape of both ports, the combustion chamber and enlarge/blend the bowl area under the valve. If someone tells you smoothing the casting is porting and wants to charge you for it, run. Same with the intake. Nothing wrong with trying to do it yourself, but usually its bst left to a professional. There is more to it than one would think. In the wrong hands, a head can become a doorstop real quick. Good Luck
