Default Cooling Issue Solved!

I posted a while back and asked if my 235 to 240 degree operating temperatures were acceptable for my '95 sisx speed since I know that 'Vettes run a bit hotter than most cars. I checked the area between the radiator and condensor and it was almost totally clean.... I rinced the area out anyway and my temps were still too hot. Well... On a hunch... I went to a parts store and bought a new thermostat... regular 180 degree... not a 160.. replaced it and then added a bottle of Red Line Watter Wetter. After I buttoned it all up... I let it idle for a few minutes... then I went out for a spirited drive.... it stayed at 197 to 198 degrees the whole time! Only once did it touch 201 for a brief moment...then it went right back to 197. I know the Water Wetter can't be responsible for a 40 degree difference... I think my Stat. was bad.

Always check the cheap stuff first!! If that doesn't work...then move up in order of cost... That's how I have always done it.

You could have tested your thermostat on your kitchen stove in a pot of water and you still can if you have the thermostat.

Yep, definitely your stat. BTW, my '95 runs at 188 - 190 at 65mph. Outside temperature doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm using a stock 180 stat that I replaced 2 years ago.

You know... I forgot about that... My dad used to do that when I was a kid... it was the only time I ever saw him in front of a stove... I remember he seemed out of place...LOL

Default Thermostat

I think the stock themostat is 195 degrees. I'm changing mine tomorrow to a 180 degree. I'm glad to hear your operating temps dropped. That's what I'm after. The improvement is probably due to the lower temp stat.

My vette got hot last summer due to a bad thermostat as well. I was thiking I was going to have to pull the radiator and clean it but a new thermostat did the trick.
