Default What a nightmare

Changed the Opti today everything that could go wrong did. I tried to upgrade to a vented system and could not figure out how to route the hoses anybody got a diagram for this?I REALLY need it. The mechanic I had do it has done them on a camaro but not on a Vette before.

Some how he managed to install it and the engine would not fire. After pulling the cap( Which WAS sealed with RTV) and looking at the position of the rotor I had him pull the spline and make sure it went in smoothly after fitting the opti back on we found the rotor was 90 deg off of where it was when we took the cap off ( I told him it could be installed the wrong way and still bolt up before) and after re assembly it fire up.

The WP was the next problem as it would not go in with the hoses in the way of what I thought was the right routing. So we took the chaffing cover of of them and ran it through the center of the WP ( Did I mention I need routing instructions real Bad?) finally got it on and got everything filled and all seemed OK till I went home. It got hotter than any time since I bought it (228) so I got it home and re burped it Now it seems to be ok BUT..... Now I have a puddle of oil coming from either the opti or WP seal . Both were replaced while doing the change.

I am not really enjoying typing this but I had to vent and ask for GOOD routing instructions for the hoses so when he pulls it apart this week it can go back togther right this time.

Man I feel for ya'. My projects always seem to turn into nightmares, no matter how small.

Here's a TTT for you. Best of luck.

I feel your pain bud! This week I just replaced my WP (AC Delco) & Opti (reman from Pronto) and now it looks like the replacement Opti is bad.

Regarding the hose routing the one on the left side of the engine goes between the WP and the Alternator bracket. The one on the right goes around the WP. The one on the left is a tight fit but I think you would have noticed it was in the way when you went to mount the pump. DI you use non-hardenening Permatex on the WP gaskets? I installed my gaskets on the engine, then installed the pump. I would also check that all 6 WP bolts are tight, don't gorilla them, just make sure they are tight.

You sound frustrated. Whenever I get like that I know it's time to put the wrenches away for the day/night.

Good luck!

the oil that is leaking is possible the your crank seal is about to go or the water seal is damaged both of this thing can cause you a oil leak. As far the vent opti, I would leave it as that. Save your $ later and get the Deteq system. I got for mine for a little over $600 that is well worth than the crap water sensitive cap/rotor.

Replacing the crank seal is not that bad, you will have to remove the opti again and of course the crank hub will have to come out. Use a LT1 kent hub removal/installer tool to do this job make life hell a lot eaiser.

I put the wrenches away for a week got too many other things to do but now I can't drive the Vette gonna drop it off at the shop and try to forget about her.
I used RTV Permatex on the wp. I did not know thw hoses went 2 different sides as they were in a single chaf guard arount 1 in diam till they split but I will be D#$%ed if that guard can be tucked around the opti behind the plug wires without hitting the HB. Could someone be a little more graphic on the routing

Pretty sure it is the WP seal as he butchered the reinstall on it ( He could not get it back in place without jerking it around)and I know it can be damaged easily( I told him that before he did it) and the only leak I had before this was a little drip from the intake now I got a puddle

Does anyone have a 95 FSM that shows a drawing of the vent hose routing?

I could use a diagram of how to route and attatch the vent hoses for a later model opti. Im going to upgrade mine when I put in a hotcam in a few weeks. If someone could scan their 95-96 helms or take a pic of the engine bay that would help us out alot, Thanks

If you keep dumping money on it you could convert to a Electric water pump. These get rid of the waterpump shaft entirely but it is a bunch of work and more expensive. Read Stricks Tech tip on the electric WP install for info or you can pm me.
