quite a few s/c questions
Im looking at doing a supercharged 350 sbc with 18* brodix heads, blower cam, carb/efi swap and the rest of the goodies. Im still debating between gasseous (sp???) vs air to air intercooling.
Anyway i'de like to know:
1. how long do the head units last? In terms of miles?
2. are they really loud?
3. To prevent slip is a cog belt drive the only way? Somebody told me some slip is good especially with a auto car on the street when comming to a stop. Something about the pressure being able to escape when comming to a stop via belt slip or the head unit will blow off. How much is a cog belt? How much is a ATI superdamper for the L98 cars?
4. How to prevent oil leaks. I guess a competent installer kit should solve this.
5. On average how often are gaskets blown? Especially head gaskets?
6. Will the car want to run warmer with the s/c? Especially if I have a air to air intercooler in front of the radiator?
Right now I run n2o but I do not like running the stuff. Kind of scarry everytime I run it.
Thanks!
In short, a properly engineered/installed/tuned SC system will not cause oil leaks, blown gaskets, or over heating. I think you'll find that unless you go with a LARGE intercooler, the loss of flow does not balance out the air cooling. The Vortech SQ head units are "quieter", but you can hear them for sure... bring ear plugs for a T trim.
