I have a 96 with a LT-4 and was wondering about the air tubes out of the top of the exhaut manifold. Can it be deleted and done another way? I know it has its purpose and reasons but there has t t be another way. Ihve removd the maniflds and I am looking to install LT headers with my Power Effects exhaust. It looks like it goes to a pump at the fron of the car maybe for a vacume or something.
Im not sure what you are trying to do.. but you can delete them. If you are gettin headers without the AIR fittings, then just take out the air system. You really wont pick up any horsepower from it though considering the airpump is electric and not run by the motor. If you are just doing basic boltons to the car and not getting to crazy with it just get Exotic Muscle headers with the air fittings. Less work and they fit real nice

Well I am not trying to get any HP but just trying to get rid of it. What does it do anyway? So you can pull it all out?
It can be done, just need to get the computer retuned as to not throw a code. It really cleans up under the engine compartment.
Very nice work you have done there........can you tell more about what the air pump does? Do they have a plate to block off the inlet on the back of the intake or did you have to make something yourself
Not really sure exactly what the AIR pump does, but I know I dont need it here in Florida. I had to make a block off plate for the back of the manifold, and then get the computer tuned. Beyond that not too hard to do.

All the AIR Pump does is to inject air into the exhaust stream when the engine coolant is below (x) to aid the CATs to light.

The main function of the AIR PUMP is to aid the Catalytic convertors to light on cold starts or when the engine coolant temperature is below (x).

So do you as well think it can be removed? Has this issue come up before? You know that thing is a pain and it is not very nice looking anyway. Do alot of people remove it? And if I remove it I guess I remove all of it such as the hoses and the pump up front? Isnt there a small vacume hose that comes off of the pump also?
