Default Code H83 - low brake fluid.. Intermittant,, Help:)

OK.. I am getting an intermittant code 83 for low brake fluid level. I am getting this when accelerate moderatly, even if I do not spin the tires. The brake light will come on, and stay on untill I touch the brake pedal. I have tried all the tests in the shop manual, but so far nothing is turning up. Anyone seen this?? Thanks in advance..

If the brake fluid level is correct, disconnect the electrical plug at the sensor.

The Low Brake Fluid sensor is mounted on the left side middle of the white plastic brake fluid reservoir.

With the plug disconnected, the Brake Level Fluid Switch can not cause the Brake Warning Indicator to come on and can not cause circuit 1684 to be shorted to ground which would set DTC 83.

DTC 83 will set and the Service ABS and Service ASR lamps will illuminate if the engine is running and CKT 1684 is grounded by the Brake Fluid Level Switch.

So if DTC 83 no longer sets, replace the Low Brake Fluid Switch.

Ok.. That appears to have worked. The sensor checks good, but gives an intermittant code..
Thanks..

OK.. Sensor did not fix the problem. New sensor does the same thing.. Hit the gas, and you get a low brake fluid code and a brake light on the dash. Step on the brake, and the brake light goes off, but the code is still there of course... Could dirty brake fluid cause this?? Anyone??
Thanks..

When you disconnected the connector for the Low Brake Fluid switch you said the problem disappeared.

The only thing left is the Reservoir.

Inside the Reservoir is a magnetic float. When the fluid level is low, the magnetic float via its magnetic field, closes the Low Brake Fluid Switch.

You can drain the brake fluid with a turkey baster and pull the Reservoir from the Master Cylinder. Flush the Reservoir out using clean brake fluid. (Dot 3).

Make sure you cover everything because the brake fluid will remove the paint from any surface.

If cleaning the Reservoir doesn't work, the magnetic float must be bad.

When you checked the brake fluid level, are you doing it with the black Diaphragm removed? Sometimes they come off when you remove the cap and sometimes they stay with the cap.
