I beg to differ. This has been a proven combo to get FbodyTPI cars to run 12.9 for years. He will need two other things Traction & a good DA.

I almost got there with an my 1990 L98 with a 80 shot at 13.1 last night. My bottle heater was out so I was spraying with only about 650psi. I think I'll join the club next week with my pressure up.

I have yet to break into the 12s all motor. 13.00 @ 105.11 is the best damn time I ran. Looked like the average was about 13.5x @ 103-105 mph. Maybe I just suck at launching even with 315/35/17 BFG D/Rs. If I can break into the 1.7x 60' times, and not hesitate off the line, I just might get there.

The real secret to good 1/4 mile times is in the first 60 foot.Unless you you have something more than stock horsepower, the 60 foot time is probably what you want to work on.I believe I heard it said,a tenth of a second off your 60 foot,is worth a tenth in a half to two tenths on the other end.

Seems odd, but usually the mph trap speeds would be lower, the better your 60' gets. I remember my best mph ever, all motor was 105.30, but I only ran a 13.40 with a 2.1 60'. My traps usually vary from 103-105 mph.

There was an 81 Corolla Starlet running just about the same trap speeds I was, but he actually dipped into 12.9x @ 104.xx mph. Gotta love the 1600 lb curb weight it has, + wheelie bars + 25" MT ET slicks, 100% stock 5.0L Ford. Must have been a bitch to get that motor in that small engine bay.

I started pulling the motor out today, I realize the heads on a L98 is junk, they don't flow that great, plus the 86 do not have a roller block. In a few fews I'll be a full fledge member of the 12 Second club, then I'm going to hunt that honda down. lol
