I got an oil pump primer shaft for that, sounds like your method is easier and cheaper
Also I was wondering why its necessary to prime the pump. After the cam install you fill the car back up with oil, so how is that different from any other time your car sits for 3-4 days undriven?
When you replace the oil pump, you need to take the cover off of the housing and pack if full of grease (don't forget the locktite when you put the cover back on). You need to prime that bad boy because there's no oil in it when you start the car (just thick grease) and you'll quickly run into an oil-starvation situation.
If you're not replacing the pump, you still need to get as much oil in the pump and around the block as you can so you're not starting with low oil pressure.
