" So I have this friend " that removed his intake to replace the gaskets and when I did, I mean he did, he forgot to mark the distributor, so how screwed is he/me going to be to try and get it back on and in time without pulling the heads to figure out which piston is at top?
mr dummie, er i mean flannel man
pull spark plug #1 and put a finger over the spark plug hole. have
some one bump the starter over until the compression blows your finger off the plug hole. look for the timing mark on the damper and bump or rotate the engine untill the mark comes to about the 10-12 btdc mark on your timing tab. line up the oil shaft and drop the distributor in, making sure it seats on the intake surface and point the rotor to #1 plug terminal on the cap, this should put you in the ballpark to start. clamp down the distributor and time as normal.
