Default minimal heat

I have a question about my 1993 Corvette. I am getting only minimal heat out of the heater. I have the Electronic Climate Control and it appears to be functioning properly. As I move the temp from 90 degrees to 60 degrees I can hear what I believe is the blend door opening and closing. I'm guessing I might have a restricted heater core. I notices one of the holes that appears to run from the upper coolant tank to the heater core is cool in comparison to the other holes. Is this an indication of a restricted heater core and if so, what is the best way to flush the core?

Thanks for the any help you can lend.

Jim

as long as your heater control valve is operating properly (i am only assuming you have one) it sounds like you are on to something. i had a core clog on me once. I removed both hoses, and forced compressed air int one tube. Out the other came a sludge snake. Problem solved! Just be careful how much pressure. I used a 100+ psi and may have only gotten lucky; i'm sure you could pop the core, and i'd hate to see that happen to you if it wasn't your problem to begin with....

If the core is plugged, coolant flows over the top of the core, but not through it. Plugged up or not, both the inlet and outlet hoses should be hot. If not, the inlet might be restricted (check the throttle body for sludge and rust), or the system might be low on coolant. You can flush the core with your garden hose or compressed air, but go easy on the pressure - operating design is only a little better than cap pressure, usually 15 to 17 psi.

This piece had separated on me at the cap fitting and was leaking coolant.

It caused a similar problem.

Good Luck, my 94 has had no heat since it was new! The previous owner had Chevy replace the heater cores twice (that's a total of 3 cores), two different dealers tried to trouble shoot it, Gordon Killebrew said "Huh!". Good thing I live in San Diego!
