my EGR pipe in my 91 has a big slit in it. its causing a pretty loud exhaust leak and was wondering that if i get the EGR block off plates will it throw a code?
It should throw the EGR code 32, unless you are running a 160deg T-stat & fan switch.
The ECM will not try to turn on the EGR untill at steady speed with coolant temps above 175deg F. Below that temp it's not needed to cool the combustion chamber.
When it happened to my '88 the car seemed to run a little rough till I shut off the engine and restarted it.
The ECM may go into limp home mode, but not sure. In which case fuel economy and performance would suffer.
should there be a code 32... do the diode trick you taught me ..IT WORKS WELL...NO MORE CODES running 180* F t stat...with no egr system gone ALL GONE... thanks to 65Z01
