I have a 93 with the ZF-6 transmission. I have a question about my clutch. At times I have trouble shifting into gear particularly if I'm in neutral at a stoplight and then place it into gear. I might be imaging it, but it feels like the car wants to move when I shift into gear. I spoke with a trans shop and they suggested I perform a test to confirm it was the pressure plate. They said I should lightly push it into gear with the engine running and the clutch in. Once I feel some resistance, shut off the engine and see if it slips into gear. I did this and it does seem to go in easer. Does this mean the pressure plate is not fully releasing? I notice the clutch fluid was nearly empty and I filled it to the full mark and pumped the clutch 50 times forum tip) to bleed off any air. Is it possible I have a leak and it's not letting the clutch fully disengage? I don't believe you can adjust the throw. I have noticed if I push the clutch down hard it appears to shift easier.
I certainly appreciate any help. As a new Corvette owner I'm not sure if I have a problem or just need to get used to the feel. I've just heard some horror stories about the cost of rebuilding a ZF-6 and I'd certainly don't want to rebuild it with on 45K miles on the car.
more then likely, you fixed it with the low fluid. the hydraulics on these things are pigs... the are noted to fail. and new ones are no better; infact, worse.
The current factory parts are junk. People are going through 3 and 4 a month and still no finding a good part.
Currently, I have a small leak and I am not in a hurry to replace it with a bigger leak. Think of it this way... the leak that cost you that fluid may have taken all these years... I would not fret it, yet. Just make sure the hose is clamped off and away from the cat.
