Thanks, I'm now running ~50psi with stock injectors and building ~300chp when she's running well, so I have some headroom to drop fuel pressure with the 25lb/hr injectors. And, since I don't plan to build up my L98 to over 400chp these injectors should serve well in the future.
Since Dough assured me there was no fitment problem on his '85 Vette I just placed the order with SLP for a set of the LS1 pulls (23051).
I'll post up results of the installation on my L98.
Dave89...what do you mean SLP takeoffs? Are they unused secondhand
injectors? If so where do they get them?
65Z51...By machining does he mean completing the surclip circles in the injector?
bark3711, unless you are having fuel delivery or leaking problems there is no reason to "upgrade" from your stock injectors with only minor mods. It is better to install an AFPR and adjust fuel pressure for optimum fuel delivery at WOT.
Thanks for the info. I guess the injectors can wait until I swap out the TB and put some headers on.
My understanding is that these are new injectors taken off a new engine to be replaced with (assumed ) larger ones.
JIMBO7, my understanding is that's all that is required to fit them to a TPI but Joey said something about using the "lower groove" though I only see one clip groove in their pic of the injector set.
Anyway, I just received notice that the set shipped from SLP, so tomorrow I'll check with UPS tracking to see where they are. If they come in Fri. and check out ok against an old stock injector I may try to get them in that night before the Corvette Challenge on Sat. morning.
Jim,
Hope you fill us in after you install. I am wondering if these are Bosch
injectors. There isn't any name on them to indicate who manufactured them.
FWIW<
The Ford"24#" dont flow 24 @ 43.5 PSI,its more like 22.9,when I had mine checked, with an adjustable FPR you can dial them in pretty close without a retune. However they are bosch pintle style so they are more prone to clog.
I have had excellent results with the LT1,motecs,they didnt clog even after 80K in My Impala SS,they are designated 24# ,but flow between 25-26,they are too big for a stock l98, but work fine on my 406,
and they dont leak or clog like my 85 ccorvette bosch 223',s did.
You may have to grind down the fuel rail boss's on the manifold so they seat down better. I put the LS1 injectors in my LT1 with only having to dremel out the clip groove and they work great. I'm also thinking of using them in my L98. Let me know how it works out for you.
i got the slp injectors in my lt1 manifold for my camaro and they just barely fit in there. didn't bother with the clips. they work fine. they are just a hair shorter than a set of 305 tpi injectors that i had laying around.
as far as the one dude saying that 24#ers are no good for over 400fwhp. three people have posted saying they are running 19# injectors on 500+ hp motors. good enough for stock i would guess.
i was thinking of using them on a tpi so let us know what is going on. if they don't work i may just buy a stealth ram and a new set of those injectors.
I installed Accels 26# injectors(Jegs $239), Holly adjustable pressure regulator set to 50# at idle and looking for a high volume/pressure fuel pump-not sure which is best yet and my 87 is running great so far.
I noticed that the stock injectors sit rather high in the fuel rail which has a deep hole for the O-ring.
Sooo, I cut the retainer clip ring about 1-2mm higher on the SLPs than the current partial clip ring. This will allow them to ride a little lower in the rail (and so a little deeper in the base) yet the clips will prevent them from blowing out.
The job isn't too bad, maybe 1hr with a cut off wheel on a Dremel and a finger nail file to touch up the groove.
I just installed the fuel rail and lines. Hmmm, the lower O-rings are a riding just at the bottom of the taper in the base. We'll see how she runs tomorrow.
BTW, I snapped off a copla pics of before & after with a pull next to a stock injector. I'll put em up later.
