Hi, Being a nice fine day I decided to have a go with my new autoxray 3000 scanner. Having configured the scanner the readings where way out, some not reading at all. Looking thru some past posts I noticed some comments about autoxray scanners not being able to scan properly on a couple of 86 vettes. Apart from other values not being correct, one of the problems I have are that it is showing open loop all the time. Jumping theATDL link shows it switching to closed loop. Also when scanning or reading data the idle increase's to 1200. Disconnect the scanner and the idle returns to normal. Now, I'm possibley doing something wrong or what I have read is true. Dont want to ship this thing back if it is me making the mistake. Any feed back would be gratefully received. Thanks
I had (for a brief period of time) an autoxray that I used on my '85 coupe. I could not read Block Learn, told me the a/c was constantly requested, couldn't read intake air temp (said it was 204 degrees all the time.) The 1200 RPM thing is normal (around 1000 RPM, actually) as the computer will go into "diagnostic mode." (1000RPM, fixed spark, etc.)
Buy a snap-on MT2500 on ebay. They're not *that* expensive and for the money there is no better scanner.
Double check the config and if the problem persists contact their tech support before shipping it back.
Though I've had problems connecting my older AutoXray to an '85, I've not tried it on another Vette besides mine. However, it does work well on my '86 IROC as well as the '88 Vette.
Never fooled with them, but with Diacom there are two modes, ALDL and Diagnostic. It could be that you're in Diagnostic mode which causes the higher idle RPM, etc.
Maybe the instructions that came with it can help shed some light on the condition.
I have a Autoxray 6000. Make sure you input manufactured date code and not year date on setup. Example- my coupe was man in 0985 but car is E1986. setup autoxray as 1986 and will not scan right. set up as a 1985 and works great. Hope this helps.
OK, reconfigured the scanner to an 85 model and all is well. Everything reads as it should. I assume everything is ok, its hard to tell with my limited knowledge. But the car runs fine and sweet, I'm happy and the world is round again! Thanks for the input.
On my 85 I cannot use the Auto Xray in just one configuration. On some readings I set it as an 86, 87 or 88. Called Tech Support and they are not interested in fixing any bugs in their configuration, so you are pretty much left trying to figure out how to set it up to get the readings you are looking for by trial and error. Not a top notch tool at all, but OK for basic trouble shooting at a reasonable price.
