96 LT4... wacky tacky?

On the '96, the tach signal to the tach comes directly from the PCM/ECM instead of through a tach filter like the earlier models.
My guesses in the order of most likely to least likely is:
1) Tachometer in the cluster
2) Wiring or connectors from the PCM to the cluster
3) PCM

The tach on my 96 lt4 does quite a bit of bouncing around also. Try running over a pothole and watch the tach wiggle. This seems ridiculous for a performance oriented car, but I guess most serious racers go to aftermarket tachs anyway.

My friends 94 lt1 has the same problem also, i just learned today.
If im accelerating slowly I can really notice it rising all wobly, so im assuming its just a common C4 problem? Some people just might not notice it?
