i was searching for a harmonic balancer for my 383 l98 (internally balanced)- and i noticed that there were a few different diameters to choose from- which do i get?
i dont have the stock one- i got this bare block from a friend of mine. the fluidamper looks good- but what size- summit had a couple different diameters listed
The stock neutral L98 is 6-3/4".
You have room for a 7" damper at the timing tab on the timing chain cover , and about 7 1/2 to 7-3/4" to clear the crossmember .
A question.
Which 383 internally balanced kit have you purchased?

you don't want to know the kinda headaches you can get from running an 8" dampner well unless you already know that it won't clear the crossmember go with a 6 3/4
I tried to use an 8" on my '86 and it did touch the crossmember. I bought a 6 3/4 from Summit. If you are on a tight budget like me they have one that is low priced, supposed to be better than oem and has timing degree marks built in.

Summit sell a 6.875" 'Street damper' (Fluidamper) which runs for $199. I was thinking of using this next. It isn't SFI approved, but seeing as I don't need SFI approval and therefore don't need to pay for it, it seems a reasonable buy and is the right size or better still, maybe a 1/8" larger than the stock one.
