Default What do I need?

I'm seriously considering acquiring a C4 , but never having owned one before I don't know for sure which one would best meet my needs .....hoping someone can give me some answers..... I'm 65 years old, so would probably be pretty easy on whatever I get, and am more interested in:

Smoother ride
Gas Mileage (Prefer Automatic, but which gearing??)
dependability
comfortable seats

any other info that someone thinks I should consider.....

100k miles wouldn't bother me, if it's been taken care of......

Fire away!

Larry

There is an old credo, "Buy the latest model, within your budget." The later the year, the more refined and comfortable they became. As usual, lower mileage is generally better. Look for unmodified cars. Gas mileage won't very widely over the 12 year C4 span. Reliability will be as much a function of age and previous care, more than anything else. Have fun shopping.

RACE ON!!!

First pick up a copy of the "Corvette Black Book" and review the changes from year to year.

Comfort depends on several factors, frame size, safety concerns, etc. For example, if you have a larger frame you may perfer a later C4, with my smaller frame I love the "snug" feel of the early C4 seats; if you prefer air bags you need to look at '90 or later C4s.

For a softer ride exclude the Z51 option but Z52 would be nice as it brings the quicker steering but with softer ride. Later C4 had the FX3 selective ride control option which might be nice for you.

Check over the various features, drive a few and make your choice. Good hunting.

Depending on where you are, do lots of shoping around. I find that prices really depend on where you are geographically.
It may be worht your while to buy your car in some of the areas where they are cheaper.
A Forum member may even be willing to have a look at a car for you so that you know if it is worth your while coming to look at it.
Already mentioned lots, but the newer, generally the better in terms of the car/creature conforts.
The less miles, the better in terms of having to replace worn out stuff.
Good luck and enjoy the journey.

i would be looking at a 1995-1996, most of the C4 bugs squashed, you get the more reliable vented Optispark....seats are comfortable enough, suspension, well....vettes have never really been known for having that Cadallac smoothness...(heh heh, if i had wanted a smooth and comfortable ride, i would have bought a Cadallac or Lincoln... )
