Removing Shifter ****
Need a little help! What is the best way to remove a automatic transmission shifter **** in an 89 Coupe? I am doing some recon work in the center console area.

First use a small flat blade to pry off the button.
Then you need a deep nose C-clip tool to release the C-clip around the shifter shaft.
Once the C-clip is out the **** should pull straight up; you may need to "prompt" it a little if it's never been off.

Make sure it's a deep snap ring tool or it won't reach. I bought a set of pliers that weren't "deep" and ended up taking them back . FYI I just used 2 flat screwdrivers and used the blade to spread the snap ring apart to get it off/on. Once it's off just pull the **** off.
