In my L98, a "no cats" setup with my long tubes kinda blew my brains out. Actually, this is great around town, but out on the highway it gets a bit annoying when you have to turn up the stereo 3/4 just to drown out the constant noise........uuhhmmmm, not good on any trip IMHO.

So I've added back an ungutted main cat, we'll be back in business.
Hoping to regain at least some of my hearing back again

for those wondering it is still illegal to remove cats on a car that came with them, testing or not. I live in Alabama and we don’t have testing and it is still illegal to pull them. Much kudos to Bogus.

It is true, it is a federal law that we are not supposed to remove emissions equipment for street use. But think about it, that would include changing t-stats, fan temps, reprogramming the computers etc. IMHO if it will pass an emissions test, all of this should be allowed.
You know, I could go and buy a 67 chevelle with a big block and be pulluting the heck out of the air with a big cam, carbs etc and that is legal. But im not supposed to modify my vette which gets driven less then 3000 miles a year? I like to think I am reasonable in keeping the enviroment clean. I properly dispose of motor oil. My wifes daily driver is a honda pilot 2004.
One other point I would like to make is what about the (big picture) on how much we all pollute. It is said now that the average house pollutes more then the car. Think about it. How energy efficient is your home? Do you have high efficiency heating and cooling equipment? The power to run these is generated and makes pollution. Is your house well insulated?
Do you recycle cans, glass, and paper?
My point being is taking the cat off of a car is not the only source of pollution that we can control.

you make some valid points, but leaving the cats on a car is an easy step to help

every bit helps. be it big or small and while some things must be done that do pollute we should not purposely do things that do or make the amount we do pollute worse

What kind headers do you have? I'm not aware of any long tubes that are compatable with the stock cats or at least on LT1's
TPIS headers.
I agree with Bradvette, the constant drone was annoying as hell at highway speeds.
