C4 hood clearance?
I can suggest a way for you to get a close
approximation for your specific vehicle.
Use a straight edge across the high point of interest
on your engine. Steady it in place with blocks of
wood stacked up on other parts of the underhood
area as necessary. Then measure down from the
bottom of the straight edge to the point of interest
on the block. If clearance does not not allow use
of a tape measure, use a piece of scrap strip or
wire that will fit, mark with a felt pen and then read
from this.
Then get plasticine, modeling clay or some similar
material. Shape into a cone, place this cone
pointy side up on top of the engine at the point of
interest, make sure you cleared away all tools and
supporting blocks then GENTLY lower the hood.
If every thing seems good down to the point where
you need to push to latch the hood, proceed to GENTLY
latch it. Otherwise, open the hood and trim down the
size of the cone.
Sum up the results of the two measurements and
you should have a fairly accurate idea of the
clearance.
Keep in mind that unless you are looking at
something REALLY novel, someone else has already
succeeded or failed at fitting it under the hood of
a C4. Wouldn't hurt to just ask whether what you
are considering has been done/will fit...
