Default TRANSMISSION Problem- 93 LT1

My 93 LT-1 (just over 100K Miles) Automatic Trans is messing up. When I'm in OD and try to speed up slightly, the whole car shudders and vibrates... is this what is known as a slip? If I'm in OD and gun it (instead of a slight accel) it downshifts with no problem.
What would you recommend as my 1st step to approaching this? Would flushing the trans do anything beneficial? In the worst case scenario...I'd have to replace or rebuild.
So: 1) how do I know what kind of transmission I have and 2) is it worth getting any kind of upgraded trans while I'm getting this done?
I have no Super mods and don't race (unless you count the occasional light to light fun!)
Thanks!

This sounds like torque converter shudder. Lock up plates are worn in the torque converter. Fix it quickly. The vibration will kill your thrust bearing in the motor if left go too long. I also had this happen when I spun the bushing in the trans case.

Thanks you guys.
So this is more a TC problem than a transmission one. So what do you guys recomend, just take it to AAMCO and have them replace or repair it? Are there any better solutions out there?

flyngun,
Thank you for your service and God Bless.
Perhaps someone will chime in from your area. I would consider an upgrade to a better than stock TC. Better performance and kick in the pants.
There has to be a good tranny shop in your area - I would not go to the big chains for a high performance car.
Start a post asking for name/location of one in your area.
Again - THANK YOU!!!!!
PS - That is one bada**d flying machine

With the symptoms you describ and the mileage that’s on the trans it’s definitely time for a rebuild. Add a new converter and don’t forget to flush all the crap out of the lines and cooler before reinstalling the trans
