B&B Resonator
Now to find a new style possibly
Now to find a new style possibly
hear are some B&B configurations I have had using a LT1 B&B Catback:
Headers- no cats- B&B Resonator- B&B Mufflers
Headers- Cats - Xpipe- B&B Mufflers
Headers- Cats- Xpipe- Dynomax Ultraflows
the last set-up is currently on the car, resonance is lower then with the B&B mufflers but not bad.
Problme is the car is LOUD, which I don't mind, but every time I move it out of the garage, the OEM alarm on my GTP gets set off.. I think if I could all the resonator behind the Xpipe it may make the sound just as I like, I would try it with both the Dynomax and B&B mufflers..
Well this is a picture of my B&B resonator
Which one is the newer design?
Strick's photo is the new one.....
Yours looks similiar to the old one, but I don't recall my old one having any tube what so ever.....I thought it was like a big open chamber with the screen baffle like yours.....
Could it be that there have actually bee 3 different B&B resonators or I am just not remembering correctly????
???????????

It is a big open area, if you angle the resonator you can see out of both sides from either inlet, I did not have much luck getting a picture that way.
I guess I can start searching for a used newer style resonator at some point.

Isn't the function of the resonator to tune the exhaust, to make the exhaust pulses expand, which in turn makes the engine think with regard to the exhaust system, that it has a 'tuned' exhaust in relation to reflected pressure waves.
I'm not an expert on this, just the jist of something I read recently in one of David Vizards books on small block chevy's.
It sounds like you need to keep the resonator up front, rather than after any secondary X or balance pipe you may have or care to install.
Doesn't the resonator merge the two pipes together anyway? I'm not too familiar with the LT* exhaust set up, if it does, is the X-pipe or crossover just to further cut down on resonance? Ever thought of reverting back to the L98 type design, but instead of the centre single cat, use a 3.1/2" or larger single pipe with Y-pieces fore and aft?
I didn't seem to suffer masses of resonance with this set up, although the cars been off the road quite a while maybe I can't remember!

Very interesting question tho....What IS the difference between a resonator & a muffler?????
The first time I remember resonators they were located in the rear of the mufflers....that is what we call mufflers on a C4 would have been called resonators & the mufflers were where the resonator is located???? In the old case there were two resonators which did not connect the two exhausts pipes...plus I think single exhaust systems can have a resonator....
Not to change the thread, but what the heck is the difference between a resonator & muffler???

If the X-pipe then resonator does not work, I will remove the x-pipe and see what it does,
I just need to order and receive my Kwiklift first
