I just posted yesterday about my car (i dont know how to make a link). Anyways all of a sudden the car runs like crap when i warm it up. alot of smoke comes out and the gas smell is unbearable. I did searching and initially i thought it was the fuel pump, but i tryed the disconnecting MAF sensor method and the car doesnt smoke any more and the idle sounds better (still not the same, but alot better) I am assuming the car needs the sensor to run efficiently. Anyways my question is if the car behaves tremendously better when disconnecting the MAF is their anything else it could be? Or does this point out and isolate the problem to the MAF or the relays. Also on a 85 does anyone know where the relays are (i read a post that 86 and on are by the battery). Pulled codes nothing showing.
Thanks and yes i know i need a helms manual, but i dont have the money to fork out right now especially if i'm going to have to buy the MAF

my cousin has a 85 Z28 5.0 TPI (I sold it to him), are they the same for the corvette 5.7?
They probably are. Just look at the underside of the MAF and compare the BOSCH part number. For testing purposes, I've used the MAF off a 85 Vette on my 86 and it works fine.
Many of the 'F' body cars use the same MAF as our Vettes.
Thanks Jake, i'll try to get a hold of him. Nice Vette I like your paint job.
If you find that you need a MAF, try finding one in a wrecking yard. There are lots of them out there. I got mine for $50 and it's been going strong for over two years now.
A lot cheaper than what you'd pay for one out of a catalog. The yard will probably let you install it on your car and try it before buying it; my yard did. Mine even had a 90 day warranty; I figure if it'll last 90 days it should have a normal life span.
Thanks for the paint job comment. Shooting it was a breeze; it was the color sanding that wore me down, LOL
Is it possible to drive the car in this condition (will i mess anything up). I called a bunch of yards but nobody has it. I was thinking on driving to some. If it is possible to drive it do i leave it connected or unconnected.
Sure, you can drive the car with it disconnected. That won't harm anything; the car just won't run all that well since it's running off pre-programmed maps in the PROM.
