What can I do to stop this?If I floor it from an idle it seems to be Ok but when I torque it up against the converter about 1800rpm when I nail it the wheels hop all over the place.Using Dunlop sp5000 255/50ZR16's & Delco rear shocks. Could it be the shocks?
I agree, shocks. None posi cars, like older camaros and mustangs will hop, but ours shouldn't.
Even the older mustangs and camaros with limited slip/posi will wheel hop, I think it has something to do with loading of the leaf springs under torque.
You must have little bunnies in your tires.
It is the Shocks.
I went to the Eldbrock on both my corvetts.
You will break the rear end.
I will also let you know that the bat wing if the bushings are bad that will add to the problem and all 4 dog bones.
I went to the plastic bushings.
CORRECT, something our cars DON'T have.
No Leafs = No Wheelhop
Try the shocks...
Anything can wheel hop, even a dump truck under braking. I've seen Jimmy Johnson doing a burnout after winning a race, left rear wheel hopping like crazy. Also, Top-Fuel or Funny Cars do it all the time...."shake the tires" they call it.
It's all in the suspension tuning and grip available. Better shocks will definitely help control it.
Not to discount anything that's already been said, but don't forget the Bushings. Forward motion starts the whole mess. Remember traction bars? They braced the axle from jumping forward under hard acceleration, and reduced wheel hop. Vette rears have traction bars (sort of). but the rubber bushings compress.
Maybe it's just tire shake. It might be all in your tires and your suspenion might be just fine. It would be easy to spot with someone taping your burnouts.
