$90.00 from akm and $30 from moates but they have a paragraph that says Does not work by itself. SO what else do I need a $50 box to convert usb when I just have serial? I just want to log I dont need to edit eprom yet. Anyone got a used working cable for sale?
CABL1 OBD1-Style ALDL Connector [Model: CABL1] $30.00
Product Description: Works with pre-1995 GM ALDL ports. You need this to log data on your GM. Connects directly to AutoProm or ALDU1. Is used on most pre-1996 GM EFI cars. Does NOT work by itself! Requires the ALDU1 or APU1 to actually interface to the PC!
Product Description: USB-based ALDL converter box. Goes between your PC and a CABL1 or CABL2. Works great, unlike most USB/Serial converters. Goes straight from USB to ALDL. Does NOT work with a serial port. Compatible with all the popular programs in Windows (TunerPro, DataMaster, WinALDL). Will do 160-baud and 8192-baud communication. Not for use with the 'Moates' ECM852 software or other DOS-based programs. Self-powered via USB, and it has a built-in switch to select mode (up=10k, middle=open, down=short) for the A-B pins. Comes with a 6-ft USB cable, but requires either the CABL1 or CABL2 for connection to the car, depending on your application. The RJ-type-looking connector you see in the picture is for the CABL1 and CABL2, and it is not a standard RJ-type connector. Please note that this combo (ALDU1+CABL1 or CABL2) is cheaper than comparable products elsewhere.

Check the above link. I built mine with just a few items from Radio Shack. The only thing is I have to just stick the wires in the ALDL connector. This works fine, but it would be better to have a plug. Anyone have 1 of these laying around?
question do you guys need the resistors for the corvette?? can anyone point me to the exact schematic for the vette? this is what I was looking for. I could build this myself. I just need or would like the plastic plug for the end but could do without it. I even have the serial cable end and pins and soldering stuff thanks guys...
if anyone has the plastic plug for the aldl male side let me know
I use AKM cable with WinALDL on my 89.
After fighting a hard-cold start problem for a long time, I decided the only way to fix the problem was to find out what the ECM was seeing as far as coolant temp. was concerned. Otherwise, it would have been a "replace this, replace that" type of fix.
The cable was $90; WinALDL is a free download.

If you have the MAF TPI system, yes you need the 10k ohm resistor across pins A & B.
Click the link.. http://www.moates.net/index2.html click on "software" in the LH pane, then click "two transistor" in the RH pane. Those are the schematics for the simplest cable.
As far as the male ALDL connector, I don't know of anyone that makes them, except me. I make them to go along with the cables I make and use a high density (15 pin) DB9 male connector for the cable end
My laptop doesn't have a COM port only USB. My 94 has the OBDII style port with OBDI ECM......correct? Which cable do I need, Morley can you help me out with this? I'm new to this so please bear with me. What are the software options?

All right Morley, I have checked out the sights and now have a few questions. I think the cabling thing is pretty straight forward. But the software, is this strictly for scanning or can changes to the ecm be made with this software? Fan turn on temp, etc. Thanks for the help.
OK, I ordered the cabl2 from Moates as well as the USB box and downloaded the software, and after reading the info I think it is only to "see" what is going on. That's OK I probably need to take this in small steps anyway.

Reason: New info.
Freescan is strictly scanning software.
To modify your .bin you'll need something like tunercat and the $EE definition file from them.
Check it out here http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/do_tc.html
They say it does it all, lets you read your .bin and save it to your HD so you can modify it with the tuner software.

When I got the cables from Moates it came with a CD, on the CD was a link to TunerPro software. Anybody use this? It appears to be similar to the Tunercat software. I went ahead and downloaded it but haven't done anything with it yet. So what's the scoop on "TunerPro"?
