Going into an LT4, you can install the Hot Cam alone without upgrading the rest of the valvetrain. But since you have to tear it down anyway, its a good opportunity to install new rockers, springs, head work, etc. And if you have a lot of miles on the car, you should install a new set of matched springs anyway.
What about piston rings and parts in the block? When do those need to be looked at?
At 100k and depending on how well the car was maintained. I would suspect that it wouldn't be too long before having to freshen up rings, and or pistons as well, and bearings. I have one customer in an older 93 LT1 F body still pounding on his LT1 going 12.6's with a Hot Cam and home ported head combo. He has 155k+ on his car now. It smokes on start ups and I suspect compression is getting down as I can literally turn the engine over by just using my hands. Its either low compression or things are polished up inside the engine so well over the miles that the coefficient of friction is very low
