I started adjusting the hood today on my '85. It's been off since I bought the car last June. Everything went really well (suprisingly), and now I just want to adjust the spring on the passenger side. I'd like to compress it, so that its even with the drivers side.
It seems like the screw is supposed to compress the string just by turning it, but that screw won't budge...
What am I doing wrong?
Oh- and if my description is poor- I included this picture to show you what I'm trying to adjust:

I dunno either. It seems like it's necessary to loosen the big nut, adjust the spring tightness with a screwdriver, then tighten the big nut. I just can't budge the damn thing. I'm thinking I'll undo those three screws and see how it works.

Yep you were right, thanks. I searched for this topic a little too, and I found a thread that also said what you suggested- That the big nut at the base of the spring needs to be loosened.
I had to take the spring assembly off the hood, put it in a vice- and turn. That thing did not want to come loose. It did work though, and I was able to make the right adjustments by turning the screw a little.

my hood wasn't popping up so I took the advice of someone on this forum. I simply loosened the brackets for the springs and the guides in the hood and let it slam down from a few inches a few times. Tightned the bolts back up and now the alignment is back to where the hood pops up now.
