Default Got me

Well I spent 20 min. this morning dropping the exhaust, moving the C-beam and pulling the drive shaft and 3 1/2 hours at the ER getting four stitches in my pinky finger. When I was at the parts store this morning picking up a rear seal for my ZF6 the parts guy said try this seal puller the had, well the damn thing slipped and my fingers went into the C-Beam causing a ¼ deep gash on my pinky finger across the entire top of my finger. Well against the advice of my doctor and wife I got home put on a mechanics glove and pulled the seal the old fashion way, working a screw driver around the outside. Well its all back together and I just need to top it off with oil, drop it off the stands and I am all done.

I think my Vette likes the taste of my blood. I usually end up shedding some on about every project.

Never had a parts guy sick a mean tool on me though.

Glad you got it done.

Hey - I work at an Urgent Care. We do this all the time. When a "car guy" comes in I spend too much time talking with them about their project and the nurses get pizzed cause they think I'm goofing off!
Here's a few tips. Wash with warm soapy water a couple of times a day and put on a new baid-aid after using some antibiotic ointment. After the 3rd day stop using the ointment and leave the band-aid off when you are in a clean environment. This helps the wound to dry out. No hot tubbing or swimming. You want it to be kept clean and dry. It will be easier to take the sutures out if you can keep the scabbing down. You can do this by using Hydrogen Peroxide and a Q-tip to clean the scabbing from between the sutures. To save youself time (only if the wound is well healed) clip the stitches your self with small scissors and pull on the knot with tweezers to pull the thread out. This way you won't have to sit and wait for the emergencies that they will put in before you! The docs here usually say to wait 7 - 10 days to remove the sutures.
My favorite story is the dirt biker who hit a deer in the woods with the deer's antler putting a huge gash in his thigh. While the doc sewed him up he told me he owned a triple black C5 and belonged the the Corvette Forum Black Sheep Squadron. He is the reason I learned about this site!

ouch. Man I hated when this happened. I got a little cuts as well today. But nothing that required stiches. But still cut and bruise.

Good story there corvetteronw!

I generally always nick a knuckle or two up. Is there anything I can take to make my skin tougher?

I read somewhere about medical super glue and how some doctors use regular super glue to close wounds. I have used it two or three times for nasty cuts that might have required suturing. I make sure the wound is clean, scrub it out and then apply the glue. It works a lot better than a bandage. It is possible to buy a skin glue at the drugstore but it doesn't seem to be as durable and is more expensive than regular super glue.
