Man, I hate letting other people work on my car. Here's the story. Took my car to the service station for emission inspection. My brake light on the speedo would not go off, so I let the shop fix it so I could have the inspection done to put the car back on the road. I had already checked all the obvious problems that would cause the light to come on (e.g, leaks, etc.) and could not find anything wrong. When I picked my car up, I asked the guy what was the problem with the light. He said one of the wires under the seat was bad. I got in the car and the first thing I noticed was the SYS indicator and then my mileage count was zero. All the miles that are reqistered on my car is from the date I picked it up. Will be taking the car back to them tommorrow to notify them of their screwup. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
Can't really see how the wire to the parking brake light switch can cause a problem like this.
Are you talking about the Trip Odometer display? That can be reset to zero by pushing the TRIP reset button on the dash. Each time you hit the Fuel Info button, you can display a variety of fuel mileage data info and depending if you had pushed the "TRIP ODO" button, the mileage display at the bottom of the speedo display will be either the total vehicle odometer reading or the trip odometer reading.
You cannot clear the vehicle odometer reading by hitting any button. The vehicle odometer reading is stored in the CCM (Central Controle Module) which is located in the center of the dash above and forward of the radio/CD head unit. The fact you have a "SYS" message displayed, may indicate a problem with the CCM.
No, its not the trip meter; its the actually mileage. I can hit trip reset and it will reset. When I hit the mileage fuel button it comes back with 70miles instead of the 80,000+ that should be there. I know theywere in the area of the ccm. Whatever they did, must have wiped that table out of the CCM. I thought it was impossible to spoof the mileage on these cars, but I can see I was wrong.
I'm betting there is a poor connection for the dash cluster unit or the decoder is fried.
All the readouts are segmented displays. If some of the segments don't work, the readout is incorrect.
Before you take out the CCM, have someone with a Vetronix Tech-1a, Tech-2, etc. read the odometer reading directly from it.
