Default Dart Pro Heads???

Anyone running these? What size is good for a superrammed 350 w/LT4 Hotcam? I am thinking 180 to keep the port velocity, the next size up is 200, whaddya think?

Thanks,
Doug

I am looking at the 200's but I am going to 383. I was told that if you go above 200 that you have gasket problems with it lining up to the intake manifold without modifications to it or something. I called Dart, and talked to several machine/mechanics around here, and aside from weight differences, as long as you are not running like 12:1 compression or something there is no difference in the cast ones and the aluminum ones, despite what some people on here will say. There is about a 50 lb difference and about a $300 difference.

180 would be better on the 350.

If you are ever going to MR, and/or going 383, I'd just get those 180s ported.

After doing some research and asking a lot of the guys around here, I went with Dart Pro 1's 200's(aluminum) on my 383. Some people queried said AFR is better, others said they were disapointed in AFR's quality. AFR had a 6-8 week waiting time whereas Summit had the Dart's in stock. No-one had a bad thing to say about the Dart heads.

I've got some Dart Pro1s 200cc going on my 383 as well. 50lbs in the front is actually pretty big, especially since for later cars that came with AL heads, it will 50lbs more than what they were designed with. (I also believe, using my hands as scales, that the Darts are lighter than 113s) Also aluminium is repairable. Its all up to you, but I would go Al. (Edit: I also think you get nicer springs and retainers with the Pro1s can't remember for sure though)

Also, on a 350 I think you will be fine with the 200s, you may get bogged down a little bit in lower RPMs but with the SR it may not be such a bad thing. Also, you could go 180s, I heard of a guy someone knew over in the Engine section that built a 500hp 383 using 180cc intake heads. So it really depends on your intake and cam selection. I would just personally go 200cc, cause we all know that 350 is gonna be a 383 sooner or later. Just some advice, not the law!

Been using Dart Iron Eagle 200's(for emissions reasons) which were ported by the guy I bought them from. No huge loss down low, but really woke up my 117k mile stock cammed/internal 350 L98.. After putting them on and adding the air-pump eliminator kit and a 52mm AS&M Tbody and swapping in a D44 with 3.45s, I went from low 13's to low 12's, possibly a high 11 even if I ever make it to the track this year.

Mr Nuke,

That is almost my exact same setup. I have a ZZ4 crate motor with the LT4 Hotcam and 1.6 RR. My gears are 3.54. How do you like the 200's down in the low end i.e. driving around town? What stall are you using with that also? Is there a big difference between the Iron vs the Aluminum heads as far as flow? I like the heat transfer properties of the Al head and also the weight loss! Guess I could always go on a diet!

Thanks,
Doug

No problem, if you want a really nice AIR eliminator bracket, get ahold of korvette4u here on the forum. I got his prototype model, and it is really nice!

After i built the engine bottom end 355 /tpis flat tappet 224/224 cam/dart pro al 200cc heads,....... with stock tranny and 2.59 auto gears
i felt little loss of low end grunt, after drove for 600 miles on new mod's
i should say dat 200cc r pretty big size heads, my combo slightly a
mismatch but still pretty good driveability, but oh boy after 2500 rpm
man its a blast pull very hard, after 300o rpm its a beast atleast to me.

so, with ur 3.54 gears it would definetly be a good driveability.
just do good dyno tune mine still a mail order chip running little rich.

my vote for 180 if u staying with 350 until it broke otherwise
200cc will sure for 383 if u have plan in future.
