I'm posting for a friend who drives an 88 vert.
When he starts the car the dash lights work fine, then the dash lights
go out a short time later, then they may come on and then back off
during driving. Has anybody had this problem?
Thanks Bob

Could be any number of things wrong, but most likely it is a bad ground or short in the wiring. Go to Bryan A. Thompson's repair excellent article at:http://batee.com/corvette/dcrg/index.shtml
It could also be normal. When you start the car, the dash always goes to full brilliance, then it dims down according to the amount of light detected by the photocell at the top left of the speedometer. If he/she drives into a brightly lit area, the dash will go brighter. If the dash illumination drops long after engine startup and the cockpit illumination isn't responsible, then you might have a bad connection between the two circuit boards in the dash cluster. Use the search function and you will find my description to fix this more than 100 times.
