It could be the battery, or it could also be an issue with the dimmer circuit if an aftermarket radio is in there.
I'm not sure what year you're looking at, but here is what the 92 owner's manual has to say on page 105: "System Problems: The Central Control Module (CCM) controls several electronic systems on your Corvette. SYS will flash three times every 15 seconds if there is a problem with one of the CCM-controlled systems. Have your vehicle checked by a Chevrolet dealer if SYS keeps appearing."
If you're interested, the following link is to my earlier post regarding the history codes that I pulled this afternoon. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...51&forum_id=48
Before buying this car, I strongly advise that you pull the history codes from the CCM & ECM if at all possible to give you a better idea of what's been going on. Based on your description of this particular "dealer's" response, I take it they are not a GM dealer and probably have no idea how to pull the fault codes, let alone clear them so that you can't see them.
Assuming it's an appropriate OBD1 equipped year, a paper clip on the proper pins will give you access to all three of the modules (CCM, ECM, & ABS/ASR) along with both the current and history fault codes stored in each module.
Good Luck!

As for the long weekend, you could do a lot worse than going through the forum and learning as much about your car as possible before you buy. The following link is a great place to start.

man, I can feel and relate to your excitement! after you get your baby-do yourself a favor, get the Helms manuals, even if you're not mechanically inclined you sure can get an education reading through them and it might just save you from getting ripped off by repairmen.
